What Is a Cryotherapy Hair Brush?

A cryotherapy hair brush, also known as a cryotherapy cold brush, can drop its temperate to freezing temperatures in an effort to protect the hair strands and encourage moisture retention. While it has styling benefits, it's considered a hair therapy brush.

What Are the Benefits of a Cryotherapy Hair Brush?

Cold styling is gaining popularity as it protects the hair follicles and improves the overall look and condition of the hair. Some of the benefits include:

It Straightens the Hair Follicle

Hair follicles become damaged over time which causes that frizzy, unkempt look. The freezing temperatures of a cryo brush allow the follicle to lie flat, offering a sleeker, smoother look, even for curly hair. It's not a replacement for a hair straightener, but rather a means of preparing the hair for heat styling.

Reintroduces Moisture

Hair tools such as hairdryers and straighteners can dry out the hair as all the moisture evaporates during styling. Cryotherapy hair tools introduce moisture back into the hair, leaving it feeling softer.

Sets the Hair

Even after straightening or blow-drying hair, the hair follicles can stick back up when the slightest bit of moisture is introduced, such as in humid conditions. By using a cryo brush after a heat treatment, the hair follicles remain in place and allow the hairstyle to set better.

Can Be Used on Wet or Dry Hair

It's not necessary to wait for hair to dry before using a cryotherapy brush, as it works on wet hair too. It works as an effective preparation for heat styling as it introduces moisture into the hair shaft. It also works on hair that's drying naturally by giving it a smoother finish.

Extends Time Between Washes

Washing your hair too often can strip the hair of its natural moisture. However, hair tends to look dull and flat after a day or two. A cryo brush allows your hair to look fresh by reducing oil and product buildup.

Technology Behind the Cryotherapy Brush

Cryotherapy brushes make use of the Peltier effect. With this technology, two plates or sides are used to create a thermoelectric effect. When the current flows through the plates, the one side heats up and the other cools down. In the brush, the heat is channeled away from the surface and the cold absorbed up into the brush's bristles. The ceramic plates allows the process to happen safely, without damaging the hair or other components in the brush.
